1. Saiyaara: A major blockbuster of the year. 2. Chhaava: Another significant contributor to Bollywood's revenue. 3. Dhurandhar: A top-grossing film of the year 4. Sitaare Zameen Par: A big hit from the first half of the year 5. Mahavatar Narsimha: A well-performing Hindi film.
I was a Bollywood buff all through my childhood, teens, twenties and thirties. And I've done my Post Grad in Journalism and Mass Communications too.
So what are the Indian audiences wanting to see in the year 2026 ? Let's have a talk regarding that.
👉 We want to see the biographies of unsung heroes of the past filmed with good background scores.
👉 In the movie Dhurandhar we saw a story with unexplored backdrop of very rarely filmed Pakistan. We of course are not telling that the cast and crew should go to that risky place for shoot. It was previously covered in Gadar ek Prem katha, Gadar 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Veer Zara. But there is a curiosity in the minds of Indian audience to see stories with Pakistan as the backdrop. Even Heeramandi OTT was a blockbuster.
👉 We want to see stories set in previously unexplored backdrops like Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Andaman and Nicobar islands and Bhutan too.
👉 We want top quality VFX.
👉 A good mujra song is great to watch and hear. We saw it recently in Dhurandhar and we want more of it.
👉 Mindless well synchronized songs of the lead pair is totally out. Is every doctor, engineer, politician or gangster a well synchronized dancer ? It was hot and happening in the nineties, now it is totally out.
👉 We don't want movies to be preachy. Movies can be issue based, but it's primary objective is to entertain.
👉 Chhaava, Saiyaara and Dhurandhar are the top three grossers of 2025 clearly stating and proving that the relatively youngsters have taken over. Although it took some time, but Ranveer Singh, Ahaan Panday and Vicky Kaushal can be given big and expensive movies.
👉 Over-hyping of Indian culture and Indian marriage ceremonies are a big no-no. None of last year's top grossers had it.
👉 Movies have to cater to the ambitions, lifestyles and issues of today's Indian youth.
Rest is fine. We fans want engrossing movies. There are plenty of such stories around us. Or else take a story from real life incidents. These are the movies which we are dying to see. Please make these kinds and release them, we'll throng to the theatres. And no south cinema, Korean shows or Hollywood movies can bring you down.
So this is what we want to say. Happy New Year and happy day at the movies. Bye for now. I'll be back soon with more new topics and content.
