In year 2024, horror-comedy movies were blockbusters. For example Stree-2 and Bhoolbhulaiya-3. Munjya was also received well. Kalki, a fantasy movie was a super hit too. Youth-oriented and patriotic film Fighter with top superstars, well-made, was well appreciated by the critics and was a hit at the box-office. I personally saw it in the theatres along with my school going daughter, and she and me both were impressed. Both the superstars were gutsy to sign such a movie and I laud both Hrithik and Deepika. The Crew staring Kareena, Tabu and Kriti Sanon was also a big hit. All three women irrespective of their age looked both beautiful and confident. Hats off to girl power. Today's audiences are indeed lauding good movies, they don't mind them being female-centric or male-centric. Irrespective of their ages, the three women looked great, they are well-accepted and adored by the audiences. Do patti was a hit. The issue of domestic violence and cheating husbands was dealt with. Good looking girl, actress Kriti Sanon is here to stay for really really long time. Maharaj, staring Junaid Khan was another hit. Sharvari Wagh looked gorgeous and her screen-presence was very much there. This kind of movie, was a commendable effort by Yashraj Films.
Among OTT, Heeramandi and Call me Bae were the major winners. The audiences just loved them. I adore such kind of concepts too. Both the OTTs were well-made. Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha and Ananya Pandey were simply superb.
Auron mein kahan dum tha, Singham 3, The Archies, Ishq Vishq 2 and Jigra were the big time flops.
The audiences are adoring good and meaty content. They are giving good support to the women-artists. Boring, done-to-death and outdated 90s concepts were outrightly rejected.
Among the stars, Shraddha Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Ananya Pandey stand tall.
South Superstar Allu Arjun's contribution to Box-office this year is noted all over India. Pushpa 2 is a roaring success. The male-lead in this movie is painted with dark-skinned makeup, overgrown thick Amazon-jungle-like hair with uneven shoulders and gaudy clothes. The song 'Peelings' also has weird kind of dance-steps. The heroine is made to cling to each of the hero's legs. This dance-step looks totally absurd. Still the movie is a massive hit, even in dubbed Hindi language. In the late 80s and early 90s such kind of Robinhood hero B-grade movies were made, which were huge hits then. The 70s Amitabh Bachchan movies like Zanjeer, Deewar, Don and Sholay were made and lapped up by the then hindi-speaking audiences.
We don't want the current Bollywood movies to be copies of Pushpa 2 because we have already seen them decades ago. The ones with new youth-issues with good music will be appreciated.
So its a wrap of this year's Bollywood report research, this is me signing off for the day. Chow.
